In Northern Ireland--where this shot was taken--during the summer months, the sun doesn't set until late at night, like 11 or 12pm. But when it does, it goes down with majestic beauty. The sun that set on this night had particular meaning for me, especially, set against a bridge extending out into the sea so full of possibilities.
As I mentioned in my most recent journal myself and three other students spent the last two weeks in Northern Ireland learning about the sectarian conflict that continues today between Irish Catholics and Protestants. Like most, this conflict is complex and deep-seated, extending far into history and into the hearts of Northern Irish people. And though much has been done for peace and reconciliation, especially in the last few years, there is still an urgent need for bridges of understanding to be built between the feuding Irish people. And looking out on this breathtaking sunset I said a little prayer of peace and snapped this shot with a tinge of hope.
Critique Welcome. Or, if you are interested in hearing more about the Northern Irish conflict I would be glad to share the little I know.
