From the Ashes of our Misery: A series on hope in the midst of occupation.
Bethlehem, Occupied West Bank, Summer 2007. My gallery: [link] Domination has a way of leaking out of its immediate context and spilling onto other peoples and places. To adapt an oft used idiom: Domination anywhere, degrades freedom everywhere. And liberation anywhere preserves freedom everywhere. Hence the liberation of the Palestinian people is intertwined with our liberation and we share the scars of their bondage. We also share complicity in the system of domination that has plagued the indigenous people of Palestine since the establishment of the Jewish state of Israel in 1948. The occupation of Palestine was not created in a vacuum. It arose and has been sustained by massive international support. Today the state of Israel receives over 4 billion dollars each year from the United States. This money is used to buy weapons that are used against Palestinian civilians and resistance fighters alike and to expand the infrastructure of apartheid in the West Bank and Gaza. This is one of those images where no description is really necessary, having more than 1000 words filled within it already. However, this is one of those shots you really have to look at to understand, which is why I think it isn't wildly popular already. It's not one of those in your face shots, but the subject is so small and easy to miss that the whole shot ends up being ruined by peoples fast pace lives. When you actually take time to stare at this image, the story tells itself." 013 by ~wagepeacebeach (Suggested by ~KSDale03 and Featured by ^estudio) |

You wouldn't worry so much about what people really thought of you if you knew just how seldom they actually do.

Erm, I do take issue with some of the points you've raised though. I'm not particularly keen on Israel's stance on the Palestinian issue, but the tone of your description makes it sound like the Israelis are the only ones at fault. I find that the truth is always far murkier then would initially seem, especially in light of history.
If you want to start a discussion on this issue, I'd be happy to oblige
I have to admit that I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to this subject though...it just goes to show how much goes on in the world that we don't hear about.
